Complete bandh observed in Jaysingpur town of Kolhapur
A complete bandh was observed in Jaysingpur town of the district today in protest against the alleged stone throwing incident between two groups of college students at Kothali village in Shirol tehsil of the district on Saturday last over a fake case registered against the members of Dalit community.
The bandh was called by various Dalit organisations to protest against the stone throwing incident.
All commercial and business activities in the town were closed, however, auto rickshaws and State Transport bus services were plying normally.
Various Dalit organisations took out a rally through the main streets of the town in the afternoon, demanding a stern action against the culprits. They also demanded to withdraw false cases registered against the members of the community immediately.
Six members of a group were injured in a stone-throwing incident between two groups at Kothali village on Saturday last, prompting police to resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.
Later, the members of two groups lodged complaints against each other at Jaysingpur police station.
Following the incident, police deployed large number of force to maintain peace and thwart any untoward incident at both places in Jaysingpur town and Kothali village.
In Kothali village, the situation is now under control, said sources in Jaysingpur police.
MLA S R Patil, Rajendra Yadravkar, chairman of Sharad Cooperative sugar factory, and other political leaders rushed to the spot to pacify the two groups and appealed thm to maintain calm and communal harmony in the village.
