A drastic change in the poll figures and percentage that were announced on the poll day and today, has baffled not not only the citizens of the district but also sent a shock wave among the candidates who had concluded their fate based on the percentages.

The election department had on April 24 stated that the total percentage of polling was 49.48 percent in all constituencies of the district. The percentage reported then was Palghar 60 pc, Bhiwandi 45 pc, Kalyan 41 pc and Thane 53 pc.

However, the election department today released a report which stated that the voting percentage was 51.71 pc.

While the polling percentage has risen in Palghar at 63.49 pc,Bhiwandi 51.62 pc and Kalyan 43.06 pc, it has dropped in Thane to 50.84 pc, the report revealed. One can understand a marginal upward revision, but the drop in percentage is of a serious nature, said political analysts.

In Thane alone, there was a drop of 44,757 votes, causing a concern among the candidates.
