Sehjdhari Sikh Party (SSP) president Paramjeet Singh Ranu said here today that the party would support Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab unconditionally as Congress had betrayed their support.

In a press statement, Mr Ranu said previously Sehajdhari Sikhs had been playing a vital role in every elections by extending their unconditional support to the Congress against the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) because their voting rights in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections were curtailed by the NDA government in 2003.

He said SSP had broken its ties with the Congress as the Union government failed to support their cause in Supreme Court rather contrarily supported the SGPC by filing affidavits against them.

He affirmed that ''more than 80 per cent of the total world Sikh population were non-baptized (Sehajdharis) who are treated step-motherly during SGPC elections by the Akali Dal and during general elections they try to use us as a vote bank''.

''Now lakhs of Sehajdhari Sikh youth will be supporting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. It is the only ultimate third secular front left in Punjab which can combat the communal forces,'' party president claimed.

To save the future of Punjab it is high time to wake up and come together to fight against corruption, unemployment, narcotics, land mafia and vendetta politics for a real progressive Punjab, he said.
