Thousands participate in 'Run for Fun' in Jammu
Thousands of athletes from across the state today enthusiastically participated in the State Level 'Run for Fun' organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police under the Civic Action Programme.
The marathon was flagged off by the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Ashok Prasad from Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here this morning.
Men, women and children from 5 to 85 years of age participated in the 'Run for Fun'.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that the role of sports in physical and mental development of the youth is of great importance and it creates discipline and comradeship among the youth and sports lovers which in large helps a nation to prosper in all spheres of life.
'The JKP has organised various sports events in the winter capital of the State under its Civic Action Programme and the people, particularly the youth have shown great interest in these events,' he said adding that the aim behind organizing sports events is to cultivate sports talent among the youth.
He reiterated that the police organisation would continue its efforts to inspire the youth of the State towards sports and for this purpose such events would be held both in Jammu, Srinagar and other parts of the State. Mr Prasad however, also distributed prizes among the winners and runners up of the marathon.
Meanwhile the winner of Full Marathon (42 KM) in men's category included Tanveer Hussain (Srinagar). He was awarded Rs 30,000 followed by Sanjeev Kumar (Jammu), Rs 20,000, Muzafer Maqbool (Srinagar), Rs 15,000, Dalip Sharma, Rs 10000, Anil Singh, Rs 5000.
In Half Marathon (21 KM) Women category the winners included Mandeep Kour (Jammu), Rs 20,000, Insha Wadoo (Srinagar), Rs 15,000, Anjali Choudhary (Samba), Rs 10,000, Jaspreet Kour (Jammu), Rs 7,500 and Poonam Bhilkoria, Rs 5000.
