Capt blasts Badal for giving clean chit to Majithia in blasphemy case
Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for shielding and giving clean chit to Bikram Majithia in a case of blasphemy were he distorted Guru Gobind Singh Ji's shalok. "By giving clean chit to Majithia Badal is equally guilty of blasphemy", he remarked.
He said, by saying that it was a mere slip of tongue, Badal was not only protecting Majithia, but apparently also trying to convey a message to Sikh clergy, which is highly condemnable and deplorable. "That is his typical way of functioning", he said.
Addressing a series of public meetings across the city in the assembly segments of Amritsar West, South, East and North, Capt Amarinder said, "Badal has either grown too old and senile to understand the seriousness of the offence or was feeling bullied by Majithia". He said, otherwise it was quite unbecoming of Badal to give a clean chit to Majithia.
The former Chief Minister said the issue needs to be referred to the entire Sikh clergy with all the five high priests taking note of it. He said, everybody must remember that the entire episode is being watched all across the globe by the Sikh community.
He said, besides being a serious act of blasphemy, it will also set a precedent that no matter how powerful and influential one may presume himself to be he is accountable to the highest temporal authority.
