A couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide two days after their daughter-in-law succumbed to her burn injuries at the Dr Ambedkar Hospital here after accusing her in-laws of having set her on fire for dowry.

While Korba police were investigating into the incident following the dying declaration of Ranjana Baishnav (30) against her in-laws, the couple -- Kirtan Baishnav and his wife Hemlata -- were found dead at their Katghora residence this morning.

Police suspect that both consumed pesticides before going to bed last night.

Ranjana, who had married Bajrang Baishnav (36) in 2011, was rushed to the Dr Ambedkar Hospital with over 80 per cent burns on April 13, and she died on Friday after battling for live for 13 days.

In her dying declaration, Ranjana charged her in-laws with having set her afire for dowry. Her faimly also lodged a complaint against her in-laws for torturing her and demanding dowry, including car, cash and jewellery.
