Three killed in lightning in Odisha
Three persons were killed and and as many injured when lightning struck them in Ganjam district today. The deceased have been identified as Jyotiraj Kar (50), Kalu Paika (35) and Deba Raita (45), hospital sources said.
Jyotiraj of Mantridi village was killed when he along with Tukuna Nepak were on the way to Bundura village after attending a social function at Bomkoi under Patrapur block. Tukuna was driving the bike when the lightning struck them. The helmet which Tukuna was wearing was burnt and he is now under treatment at Patrapur Hospital.
Lightning struck Kalu Paika a teacher in Gopinathpur ME School when he was on the embankment of a pond at Raipur village under Bijayalaxmi Narayanpur panchayat in Digapahandi block during afternoon today.
Deba Raita, a resident of Malba under R Udayagiri block in Gajapati district was killed when lightning struck him as he was extracting the liquid from a dates tree in Jhatikandagaon village under Patrapur block. Two others including Padma Sabar and Kuni Nayak were injured after they were struck by lightning. Padma Sabar was collecting drinking water from a tube well at Kumbikhala village under Turubudi panchayat in Patrapur block today.
