Police stations to become paperless in Kolhapur region from May 1
Police registration diary, an important part of the police investigation since British regime, in which every crime is registered, will be a part of history in Kolhapur region including Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Pune rural and Pune from May 1 as soon complaints will be registered online.
After independence, the method of registering complaints in station diary had continued. Murder, theft, accident and other crimes were booked first in police station diary, written by head constable under the supervision of police inspector. But in many cases they were found to be inaccurate with the initial complaint lodged.
Now state government has decided to start the new system of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) in Kolhapur region from May 1 and later in all over the state from June 1. Manojkumar Sharma, District Superintendent of Police, said the training of CCTNS to administration of every police station and top police officers had already begun in Kolhapur region, in which information would be registered in computer only in Marathi and expressed hope that this new system would successfully make every police station paperless. Satej Patil, Minister of State for Home, said with this new online system, all police station would be connected with each other which could help in their police investigations with all photographs of criminals, their fingerprints and other information available on only one click.
