In a major success against cross border smuggling of narcotics and fake currency, the Amritsar branch of State Special Operation Cell, a unit of Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, arrested four smugglers and recovered 22 kgs heroin from them on Fatehgarh Churian-Amritsar road today.

Acting on a tip-off, a specially constituted police party, under the directions and supervision of SSOC AIG Manmohan Singh, apprehended Jagjit Singh alias Laddi, Davinder Singh alias Goldy, Harbinder Singh of Gurdaspur district and Kuldip Singh alias Babbu of Amritsar district and recovered 22 kgs heroin, one 30 bore pistol alongwith six live cartridges and Rs 10 lakhs in cash from them. The nabbed smugglers were waiting for a party to deliver the consignment in their car, a SSOC release said here.

A case FIR under sections 21/25/29/61/85 of NDPS Act, 25/54/59 of Arms Act has been registered and the Enforcement Directorate has been informed regarding the recovery of Rs 10 lakhs.

Kuldip Singh and Jagjit Singh are notorious smugglers with numerous cases registered against them in various police stations and the antecedants of other two smugglers are being verified, it added.

Investigation revealed that they have been indulging in cross border smuggling and had recently procured two consignments of heroin from Pakistan, which they had disposed off as per the directions from Pak Smugglers.

It was further revealed that the seized consignment was the third in the past one month and the recovered pistol was part of the same.

The preliminary interrogation of the accused has revealed that they have been using some grey areas in Gurdaspur sector to cross the consignments of heroin. Those grey areas and the entire network on both sides of fencing is being identified and tracked. The exact locations used by the smugglers for smuggling of the consignments are being zeroed upon.
