Man close to Gandhis involved in hawala racket: Modi
Amid the ongoing war of words between the BJP and the Congress, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today alleged that 'a person close to the Gandhi family' was involved in a hawala racket.
'The Union government had put the phone of a meat export-trading company on surveillance and recorded conversations of around 300 to 400 hours, during which it was found that the said company was involved in a hawala racket which is an anti-national activity. The recording also revealed that one of the persons with whom the hawala racketeers had held conversations was very close to Madam Sonia Gandhi,' Mr Modi said.
Addressing an election rally in Bharuch in south Gujarat, Mr Modi warned that the Union government should not try to cover up the matter. It should come out with the details that the hawala racket was of how many crores of rupees and who are the people who took part in the conversation in the recordings, he said.
Earlier in the day, while addressing a public rally in Chota Udepur in central Gujarat this afternoon, Mr Modi said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was born with the golden spoon in his mouth and he does not know what poverty is all about.
"He visits homes of the poor with a curiosity as one goes to see Taj Mahal in Agra. Like the tourists, he too is accompanied by an army of cameramen who take his pictures in a poor household, then he eats up whatever eatables are there in the house," Mr Modi, who is on a whirlwind tour of his home state for election campaign, said.
Mr Modi said, "Those who do not know what povery is, those who are born with the golden spoon in their mouth and who do not know how pricks hurt the naked feet of a poor, have now come out seeking votes from the poor."
