API trapped in bribery case
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a senior assistant police inspector (API) and his writer while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a businessman at Datta Wadi police chowky here today this afternoon.
According to ACB superintendent of police Sarang Awhad, API Vitthal Shivaji Shingte and his writer Dattaray Vithoba Naik, both attached to the Duttawadi police chowky, were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money of Rs 50,000.
Mr Awad said the accused had demanded a sum of Rs five lakh from the complainant to weaken the case of cheating registered against the complainant in the same police station in 2013.
API Shingte had already taken Rs three lakh from the complainant and was demanding for the rest of the amount. Fed up with constant calls from police for money, the businessman lodged a complaint with the ACB Pune against API and his writer.
After verifying the complaint, an ACB team laid a trap at the police chowky where money was to be delivered to cops and nabbed the duo while they were accepting the money.
The duo will be produced before local court for police custody, Mr Awad added.
