Rahul slams Gujarat Govt over land bill implementation
Continuing his attack on the BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who was on a visit to Gujarat for election campaign, today slammed the state government saying it was not implementing the Land Acquisition Bill properly.
"The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre passed the Land Acquisition Bill to protect land of tribals and dalits from forcible acquisition," Mr Gandhi said here addressing an election rally.
He claimed that all the Congress-ruled states were doing well in implementation of the Bill.
Mr Gandhi alleged that the Modi government was taking farmers'lands and giving it to industrialists.
He also said the BJP tried to stall the Bill in Parliament.
"The BJP tried to stall the Bill. It stalled the Bill in a Parliamentary Committee for two years," the Congress leader said.
He further said after the land bill, farmers' and other people's lands will not be taken forcibly and if their land was acquired with their consent, they will get price four-time more than the market rate.
Mr Gandhi said the UPA government wanted to provide benefits to tribals and dalits in Gujarat.
Gujarat will go to single phase polling on April 30 for 26 Lok Sabha seats.
Earlier in the day, he addressed rallies at Amreli and Botad near Bhavnagar.
