As many as 678 Kargil based stranded passengers were airlifted in Indian Air Force sorties to Leh and Ladakh from Jammu and Udhampur base camps, official spokesman here said.


He said Special sortie of an IL-76 was pressed into service to airlift 678 stranded passengers from Udhampur, Jammu to Leh and from Leh back to Udhampur, Jammu and Srinagar to Leh.

The spokesperson said that 145 passengers were airlifted from Leh to Srinagar and 254 from Srinagar to Leh in IL76 sorties and 15 passengers were also lifted from Kargil to Jammu in AN32 plane.

He said that subject to fair weather, the AN32 Courier Service will also operate tomorrow between Kargil-Jammu and Kargil-Srinagar and all the passengers must contact their concerned Liaison Officers for further information.
