BJP approaches President against UPA move on next Army Chief
Senior BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy today wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee complaining against the UPA government's reported move to appoint the next Army Chief and said the timing of the decision would demoralise the Defence forces.
Seeking a stay on the proposed appointment, Dr Swamy said the UPA government should not appoint the new Army Chief and should leave it to the next government.
''In case of Gen V K Singh they took three months. Whys is there a hurry in this case,'' Dr Swamy told reporters.
The BJP has also petitioned the Election Commission to stop the process saying it was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Reports said the Defence Ministry is going ahead with the process of appointing the new Army Chief and has recommended the name of Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag.
However, the Defence Ministry had on April 21 denied an agency (Not UNI) report that the Ministry of Defence had recommended the name of the Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt General Dalbir Singh Suhag to the Prime Ministera€™s Office for appointment as the next COAS.
the government had said the report was ''totally baseless.''
