The Election Commission has ordered repolling in nine booths in Odisha where the elections were held in the second and final phase to the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on April 17 last.

Opposition Congress and the BJP have demanded repolling alleging large scale rigging in these booths.

Chief Electoral Office (CEO) sources here said the ECI accepted the recommendation of CEO Dr Mona Sharma to hold the re-polling in the nine booths.

The re-polling would be held on April 25 between 0700 hours and 1700 hours.

The re-polling will be held in one booth under Telkoi(SC) assembly seat and Ghasipura assembly constituency under Keonjhar LS seat, six booths in Niali Assembly segment under Jagatsinghpur LS seat and one booth in Aul assembly seat under kendrapada LS seat.

The CEO had recommended repolling in these booths following complaint of disturbances and rigging during the April 17 election.

Repolling was also held in 22 booths in Odisha on April 17 last along with the second phase elections following the snatching and burning of EVMs by the Maoists and other EVM related problems.

Elections in these 22 booths were held in the first phase on April 10 last.

Out of 22 booths, repolling was held in 15 booths in Chitrokonda Assembly seat in the Maoist hit Malkangiri district where no voters turned up to cast ballots in at least 8 booths fearing the wrath of the Maoists.

Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress today alleged large scale rigging in several polling booths in Ghasipura Assembly seat and demanded fresh poll in the Assembly seat.

Pradesh Congress chief Jayadeb Jena said if the CEO did not recommend for fresh poll in Ghasipura Assembly seat, the party would move the ECI and if necessary would approach the Supreme Court for a fresh poll.
