2 police officers booked on rape, ransom charges
A case has been registered against a Police Inspector and Assistant Police Inspector for repeatedly raping and taking ransom from a woman at Atpadi police station in this district.
The 35-year-old victim registered a complaint against the accused officers in the court of Chief Judicial Judge DS Ghumare, who ordered today to register a rape case against PI Narendra Kulkarni and API Shivaji Kale. She also gave a CD and Photo as proof to the court.
In June 2013, one Bhanudas Beradya Bhosale, resident of Vehil village in Indapur Tehsil of Pune district and brother-in-law of Kale, registered a false case against the husband of the victim.
She requested then Atpadi police station inspector Kulkarni and Kale, then working in LCB, to release her husband.
The accused threatened her to please them and give ransom of Rs five lakh for her husband's release. The woman gave Rs 5.25 lakh to them.
Later in the night, Kale called the woman at Hotel Sadanand on Sangli-Miraj road and raped her. Next day Kulkarni also raped her. They continued to rape her for next 15 days.
The woman narrated this incident to constables Amol Vaghmare and Amol Ghatge, who informed Police Superintendent Deelip Sawant.
After a complaint was registered with the District Collector, Kale returned Rs 2.5 lakh to the victim.
Fed up of atrocities, the woman and her husband also attempted self-immolation before the Atpadi police station.
