Army, police ops in Karbi Anglong to flush out ultras
A joint operation by the Indian Army and Assam Police in Karbi Anglong district, coded 'Operation thunder', to clear strongholds of various ultra and subversive elements has been set in motion, encompassing the entire district since last few days.
One KNLA (Karbi National Liberation Army) cadre, identified as Long Ram Rongpi, was apprehended by Samalangso police on Saturday from a hideout.
After a brief encounter, security forces engaged in counter-insurgency operation arrested one Dipen Terang, suspected to be KPLT (Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger) cadre, yesterday.
'Under immense pressure mounted by security forces either they will have to surrender or face consequence of police action,' said a senior police officer of Karbi Anglong.
In a separate incident, two people were shot dead by a cadre of disbanded Dimasa ultra organisation DHD (Dima Halom Daogah) in Dhansiri, around 30 kilometers from Diphu, on April 20.
According to police, Debojit Nonisa and Dilkijao Dimasa forcefully entered the house of Nilendu Dimasa, ex-cadre of DHD.
Nilendu reportedly fired on them with his pistol in self defence, killing both on the spot.
