Odisha Pradesh Congress Chief Jayadeb Jena today alleged large scale rigging in polling booths of Ghasipura assembly segment by the ruling BJD and demanded fresh elections there.


To prove his allegation, Mr Jena showed video clippings of rigging in booth numbers 245 and 246 at a news conference here where the ruling BJD agents were seen freely casting ballots on behalf of the voters.

The Congress chief said the party had submitted the video clippings to Odisha State Chief Electoral Officer Mona Sharma urging her to intervene into the matter and declare the candidature of BJD nominee and state Higer Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra as null and void.

He alleged that the rigging of votes was systematically planned by the BJD in as many as 101 booths across the Ghasipura assembly segment.

Mr Jena said apprehending large scale rigging, Congress candidate for Ghasipura Prithviraj Kuanar had moved the high court and the Election Commission (EC), alleging that there will be manipulation of votes in as many as 101 booths and prayed that all measures be taken to conduct a free and fair elections in the constituency.

He said Odisha High Court had asked Mr Kuanar to approach the CEO for installation of CCTVs and deployment of paramilitary forces in the sensitive booths 'but the CEO despite our apepal, did not take any steps to facilitate a free and fair elections in these booths'.

The Congress chief said the party will move the ECI if the CEO did not intervene and order fresh elections in the constituency.
