Usha Rani, who defeated Chiranjeevi, not contesting polls
After 2009 election results, name of Bangaru Usha Rani was the talk of state after defeating film star turned politician K Chiranjeevi from Palcole assembly segment in West Godavari district.
Now, Union Minister K Chiranjeevi, has floated new political party named Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) will contest from Palcole Assembly constituency.
The Congress has fielded Ms Bangaru Usha Rani, an unknown leader against him. The political pundits guessed that the win of Mr Chiranjeevi would be a cake walk.
Making the expectations upside down, Ms Usha Rani defeated Mr Chiranjeevi by over five thousand votes not only attracted the attention of state but also neighbouring states as well. All hoped that she would be inducted into the Cabinet for her mega triumph, but that was not happened.
Interestingly, Ms Rani failed to keep up the popularity and fame, which she earned after the results. Her followers regretted that she failed to maintain good contacts with the people of the constituency in the five years and virtually she became politically oblivion.
Meanwhile, Ms Rani expressed unwillingness to contest in the present elections. Her followers said she guessed the impact of bifurcation and opted out from contesting election.
The Congress has fielded K Balanageswara Rao in her place in this election.
