Accused who jumped parole arrested in Mumbai
The city Crime Branch sleuths arrested a man who had allegedly jumped parole last year.
The accused, identified as Shabbir Khan alias Khadda, was arrested from Laljipada in Kandivali (West) area of the city. He turned out to be a wanted criminal with established links in the mobile phone IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) number racket, police said.
Khan was convicted for murdering a jeweller in 2007 and was serving his life term before he jumped parole in 2013 and did not return.
Interestingly, Khan's interrogation by the sleuths of Crime Branch Unit 11, revealed that he used to hand over the stolen mobile phones to a man named Tushar Rajput.
Following which, Rajput, a savvy technician, was arrested by Crime Branch for tampering with IMEI numbers of several stolen mobile phones, said the police.
After jumping parole, Khan became a big fish in the mobile theft business and the cops strongly believe that he was running a cartel.
Khan's arrest could lead the police to trace several mobiles which were stolen in 2013, said senior inspector (Unit 11) Avinash Sawant.
