Women group accuses BJP-Cong of ignoring common woman in Guj
'Sahiyar', a women group, today alleged that both the BJP and Congress were 'misusing' women issues for their political gain while ignoring the common woman of Gujarat.
The group said, while the BJP and Congress stage protest against each other, they never protest when a crime is committed against a common woman, citing example of BJP women cell staging a protest against Congress candidate from Vadodara Lok Sabha seat Madhusudan Mistry for his remarks against senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.
But Sahiyar said the BJP was not bothered about a common woman of the state.
'There were 8,815 cases of crimes against women in 2011. The number was 9,661 in 2012. There were 473 rape cases in 2012,' the women group claimed in a statement.
It asked how many protests were taken out by BJP and Congress over these incidents, and alleged that in Gujarat, it takes one to three months for the women even to register a case of crime against them.
Sahiyar said both the BJP and Congress did not make clear their stand on several issues concerned to the women in their manifesto for the general elections.
"Women will not tolerate the misuse their issues for political gain by all political parties, including the BJP and the Congress," Sahiyar added.
It appealed to the women to ask questions to the candidates of their respective areas about their issues and if there was no satisfactory reply, they should vote, but use NOTA (none of the above) button.
Gujarat will go to single phase polling for 26 Lok Sabha seats on April 30.
