Actor Ramya, who is defending her seat in Mandya, the Cauvery basin district of Karnataka, has led the Google search for celebrities contesting or taking part in Lok Sabha elections in South India.


Ramya, who was pushed into the by election, when two Janata Dal (S) parliament members quit seats last year to enter State Legislative Assembly, was the top performer among the searches made for Kannada film actors.

The Kannada cinema star who campaigned extensively, is leading the tough race against experienced Janata Dal (S) candidate C S Puttaraju in the sugar cane belt.

Karnataka goes to polls to elect 28 members in a single phased polling tomorrow.

Tollywood star Pavan Kalyan, however, topped the charts of actors campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. He launched his own party 'Jan Sena' in Andhra Pradesh.

Looking to storm Seemandhra region, the brother of Congress leader and 'Mega star' Chiranjeevi, also expressed his support to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

In the war among woman stars, debutante Nagma, the Congress candidate from Meerut, doubled the hits compared to 'dream girl' and multiple time MP Hema Malini, the BJP candidate contesting in Mathura, with both segments in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Google Search trends released by the top search engine today, celebrities ruled the battle ground in the Lok Sabha public campaigning.

A company release said here today Megastar Chiranjeevi's brother Pawan Kalyan was, however, the most searched celebrity candidate.

A lot of celebrities are contesting in 16th Lok Sabha Elections. Celebrities have always been a major draw for political parties in the Indian electoral process especially in the campaigning phase but they are expected to play a bigger role in this election season.

According to the Google search before Lok Sabha election, there were celebrities from various professions including actors, sports personalities, comedian, magician, and theatre personalities too.

Meanwhile, poet turned politician Kumar Vishwas from Aam Aadmi Party emerged third on the search popularity graph battling it out in the Congress heartland Amethi.

Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant gained significant response online with the launch of her new political party Rashtriya Aam Party in Mumbai.

Although they didn't make it to the top 10, Actress Gul Panag from AAP and Kirron Kher from BJP's clash for the Chandigarh Loksabha seat has created a lot of buzz online. The young AAP leader seems to take a good lead online as of now.

Others on the top 10 list include Mega star Chiranjeevi, popular stand-up Comedian Raju Srivastava who earlier returned Samajwadi Party's ticket from Kanpur (U.P) and Bhojpuri superstar Manoj Tiwari, a BJP candidate from North east Delhi.

Bollywood Actress and Rashtriya Lokdal candidate from Bijnor (U.P)- Jaya Prada and Bengali film star Dev who would be contesting from West Midnapore constituency in West Bengal on Trinamool Congress ticket have also marked their presence on the top 10 list.
