2 arrested in family suicide case at Anjar
The Gujarat Police have arrested a self-styled religious leader and his accomplice in connection to a case where seven members of a joint family, including three young kids, committed suicide by hanging themselves in their home at Ningal village of Anjar taluka in bordering Kutch region of Gujarat.
A police official today said Balram Das alias Prabhuji Dauji, the self-styled religious leader from Delhi and his accomplice Sonal, who is from Jamnagar's Aliabada, were arrested.
Police claimed that they extorted money and jewellery worth Rs 1.5 crore from the family in the name of religion.
According to the police, dead bodies of the Zaryu family were found hanging by the ceiling of main room in their house on March 23.
Members of the joint family used to perform Aarti and bhajans every evening. When the neighbours did not hear the sound of the bells or bhajans, they got suspicious and checked the house, after which they were shocked to find seven bodies hanging.
