Amarinder condemns attack on Amritsar party office
Former Chief Minister and Amritsar Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Singh today condemned the attack on the party's rural district office headquarters here yesterday and warned against vitiating peaceful atmosphere.
Capt Amarinder dared the attackers if they had courage they should better confront him than stray around to scare his workers. He also asked the police to immediately arrest the culprits lest it be believed that they were having the police patronage.
He disclosed that some people fired gunshots at the rural unit office of the party here yesterday and when the Congress workers tried to chase them they fled the scene.
He said it was a cowardly act aimed at scaring our workers who tried to confront the attackers who fled from the spot after firing gunshots. He dared the attackers and those patronising them, 'if you are so brave, better come and fire at me than on my workers.'
He pointed out, 'it is beyond any doubt who these people were and at whose behest they were acting'. He hoped that the police will soon arrest and expose them and ensure that such incidents are not allowed to happen again.
The former Chief Minister warned saying this was an indication of the things to come. He reiterated his demand that Amritsar be declared as the 'hyper-sensitive' constituency as more such incidents were feared to take place as some Akali leaders were openly threatening of violence and had already shown their seriousness by attacking the Congress office.
