A hardcore lady Maoist was killed and five others were injured during an encounter with security personnel in the Sunabeda reserve forest.


Police identified the deceased as Jagati working for Chhatisgarh Maoist cadre for more than 20 years.

Security personnel seized a 303 gun, a pistol, a huge quantity of detonators, live catridges, four tiffin bombs, a petrol bomb, food articles and Maoist dresses.

According to sources, the Maoists fired upon a group of SOG Jawans from a hill top yesterday while they were going from Nuapada to Datunama and Sanabahali villages about four km from Sunabeda for a combing operation.

The exchange of fire continued for more than one and half hour. After the Maoists fled from the scene the Jawans reached the hilltop and found the lady Maoist lying dead. Police sources said five other Maoists are suspected to be injured in the exchange of fire.

After the incident, senior police officers with additional reinforcement reached the spot and intensified the combing operation.
