Sporting Clube de Goa look to halt Salgaocar
A keen contest is expected between title-aspirants and former champions Salgaocar FC and another local Sporting Clube de Goa in the I-League Football Championship match to be played at Nehur stadium, Fatorda tomorrow.
Placed second in the league table, Salgaocar are tied with third-placed East Bengal with 37 points each and 4 points behind table toppers Bengalure FC with 41 points.
They will go all out for full points as they need a win to stay in the hunt for title.
Sporting Clube, placed at 4th spot with 33 points, too are looking for full points to increase their points tally.
'Although we are out of the title race, we want to finish as high as possible in the League and will be going all out for 3 points against Salgaocar,' said Sporting Clube coach Oscar Bruzon here today.
Oscar set his young team a target of a top five finish at the start of this season and is on course to achieve it, provided they stay focused.
'I am looking for a high performance from each and every player in the game,' he said.
The Flaming Oranje will be missing Dawson Fernandes, Victorino Fernandes and Pratesh Shirodkar due to injury, but Oscar is not worried as he knows the whole squad is eager to leave a lasting impression and fight for their places.
Since Oscar took over as coach of Sporting Clube 16 months ago,he has faced Salgaocar seven times in all competitions and has won six and drawn one.
'We need to be strong in the defence and then build from there patiently, by creating more chances in the final third to attain success,' added Oscar.
