German tourist dies after fire breaks out in a guest house in Puri
A 23-year-old German tourist died when a fire broke out at a guest house in Puri.
Vincent Julian Wischnewski, who was staying in the guest house for over a week, succumbed to burn injuries in his room on Friday night.
The hotel staff learned about the incident when they saw smoke emanating from the room which was locked from the inside.
An investigation team from the Sea Beach Police Station rushed to the spot and broke open the door.
Wischnewski's body was found lying on bed with multiple burn injuries.
Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of the Sea Beach Police Station, Pravas Kumar Sahu, said they also recovered intoxication drugs and cigarette boxes from the room.
"He was staying in 'One love guest house' in Pentakota and succumbed to burn injuries in his room. Thereafter we visited this spot today along with team officers and found the dead body of Julian lying on the bed cot with burn injuries. And there are many intoxicant drugs like injection, ketamine injection, korex were found lying scattered at the spot," said Sahu.
The body has been sent for post mortem while the investigation continues to determine what caused the fire.
