The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will hold its 27th convocation on April 16 at its main campus in Delhi for students passing in December 2013 and June 2013 term end examinations (TEE). A release issued by regional IGNOU department here today stated that Ashok Thakur, additional secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Human Ressources Development, will be the chief guest and will deliver the convocation address, and Dr Vijitha Nanayakkara, vice chancellor, The Open University of Sri Lanka, shall be the guest of honour. Professor M Aslam, vice-chancellor, will preside over the function, the note said.

The note further stated that the 27th convocation will be held at the convention centre in Delhi and the same will simultaneously be organised at the 53 IGNOUR Regional Centres through teleconferencing mode.

In Pune, the convocation function will he held at Dr A P J Abdul Kalam-DRDO golden jubilee auditorium on Pasan-NDA road, the release said. A total of 4,724 students of diplomas and degree certificates from Pune region will receive certificates in person and in absentia. About 350 have opted to receive the certificates in person, the release said.

The gold medalists are Dr Manjiri Ranade (Aurangabad), Dr Anita Basavaraj (Pune) and Biju Thangappa (Thane).

In addition to the gold medals to be distributed at the Regional centres, special awards such as Prof G Ram Reddy Memorial gold medal, Indian Bank-sponsored gold and silver medals, CEMCA cash award, Mother Teresa cash award and several others will be presented during the main function at Delhi. Dr Kalpana Gupte, Regional Director, IGNOU Pune, congratulated all the recipients of the degree and diplomas.
