Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has urged his supporters not to watch actor Salman Khan's film 'Jai Ho' releasing on Friday.

"Salman Khan is a Modi supporter. Don't watch his film 'Jai Ho'," said Owaisi.

After being criticised for supposedly "endorsing" Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Salman on Thursday said he visited Gujarat to promote 'Jai Ho'.

"I have gone there to promote my film as an actor," Salman told NDTV channel adding that Gujarat is a huge market for the film especially because the lead actress of the film - Daisy Shah - is a Gujarati.

He said he had to meet Modi as he required him to make the film tax-free in the state.

"I need my film to be tax-free. Mr. Modi can make the film tax-free, " he told the channel in an interview.

On being asked to comment on why Salman was singled out and criticised even when superstar Amitabh Bachchan endorses Gujarat tourism, the actor sarcastically said, "May be they think I am a much bigger star."

He said he enjoyed there as the people "were very happy" witnessing Salman and Modi together at a traditional kite-flying festival.

Salman also criticised media for highlighting the event for TRPs.

"I am a free man. I can go wherever I feel like going," the actor said.

He also said that he "never campaigned for any politician", rather campaigned for "people", who he thinks can do good work in a particular constituency.

Salman and the Gujarat Chief Minister on Jan 14 came together before the media where he did not endorse Modi as the future prime minister but at the same time showered praise on him for his work and popularity.

The two also lunched together.
