Following the directions of the Election Commission of India, three companies of SSB had been deployed in the city to assist Punjab Police for keeping a strict vigil over the law and order situation for smooth conduct of elections for Jalandhar parliamentary constituency.


DIG BSF, Punjab Frontiers (HQ) here RPS Jaswal said that more companies of SSB and BSF would be dispatched after being requisitioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He said 21 companies of the BSF had already been supervising the Lok Sabha polls in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Confirming the deployment of three companies of the SSB, ADCP (I) Naresh Dogra said that the SSB personnels had been deployed at different sensitive and important point in the city.

He said that they would assist Punjab Police in maintaining law and order in the city and curb crime besides routine checking of vehicles carrying cash more than Rs.50, 000, narcotics or any other goods to lure voters.
