Congress seeks transfer of SSP Amritsar Rural
Congress today sought the immediate transfer of Amritsar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Gill not only for his partisan way of functioning but also openly threatening and intimidating the Congress supporters.
In a complaint to the Election Commission of India, the party said recently, on the directions of the SSP Gill, Bhindi Saidan SHO Jarnail Singh had threatened and intimidated Congress sarpanch Sadda Singh as he refused to support the ruling alliance.
The SHO had even provoked an attack on the sarpanch which led to damage to his car. Had he not fled from the scene he might have been killed, the complaint added.
The party, in its complaint, said SSP Gill had a dubious record. During the last assembly elections in 2012 he was transferred out of Patiala following similar complaints that his conduct was partisan and unfair.
Congress said it will not be possible to conduct a free and fair poll as long as he remains the head of the police in the area.
The state will go to polls on April 30.
