Naveen govt involves in scams of thousands crores- Sonia
Congress president Sonia Gandhi today accused the Naveen Patnaik led BJD government in Odisha of various scams to the tune of several thousands of crores of during Rupees the last 14 years-rule.
Addressing an election meeting here in support of party candidate and Union Minister Srikant Jena, who is seeking re-election from Balasore Lok Sabha seat, Ms Gandhi said the BJD government had miserably failed to protect the interest of farmers and the people.
She said, around 4,000 farmers had committed suicide as the state government failed to provide bonus over and above the MSP fixed for agriculture crops.
The Congress President said an irregularities of Rs 500 crore was reported in the implementation of Central scheme-the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme in the six districts of Odisha.
She said, lakhs of depositors were cheated by the chit fund companies who have duped hard earned money of the innocent investors running into thousands of crores in the chit fund scam.
Without naming any one, Ms Gandhi said a vested group was trying to divide the communities and trying to grab power at any cost without any agenda.
In a bid to establish a chord with the tribals, Ms Gandhi said Congress has a long standing relationship with the tribals and former Prime Ministers-- Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi did a lot for the welfare and protection of rights of the tribals.
The Congress leader said it is the only party which can give a stable and effective government and appealed to people to vote for the party candidates contesting the elections.
She said more women police stations would be opened in the country and women would be deployed in these police stations and steps would be taken for the security of women if the Congress was voted to power.
The State will go to polls in second phase on April 17.
