EC seeks report from DGP on manhandling of election officials
West Bengal police arrested three suspects, said to be Trinamool Congress supporters, on charges of attacking Election Commission officials at Manikchak on Thursday after the EC directed the police to file a comprehensive report by 1700 hours today.
The EC ordered Director General of Police GMP Reddy to apprehend all those allegedly involved in the attack on EC officials yesterday who were engaged in poll duty in Malda's Manikchak area. The EC also demanded details of the motor bike rally and arrest of those who led the procession.
Altogether four persons were named in the FIR for manhandling the EC officers.
It was alleged that the Trinamool Congress workers assaulted the EC officials in front of state Women and Child Welfare Minister Sabitri Mitra and Malda south candidate of TMC Mouzzen Hossen.
The attack took place when a bike rally organised by the TMC at Manikchak was prevented by the three EC officers, who were manhandled.
The state will go to polls on April 24.
