More than seven lakh new voters have been added in Gujarat, including 47,343 in Gandhinagar and 46,765 in Vadodara.


While BJP veteran L K Advani is contesting from state capital Gandhinagar, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is contesting from Vadodara.

State Chief Election Officer Anita Karval today said a total of 7,07,006 new voters were added up to March 2014.

With the addition of new voters, the total number of voters in the state has gone to 4,05,78,577. There were 1,93,68,001 female voters and 285 others.

The highest number of new voters was in Rajkot at 49,479, while in Dahod it was lowest at 12,370.

Ms Karval said a total of 4,05,78,577 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the general elections.

She said Navsari has the highest number of 17.64 lakh voters, while it was lowest in Dahod at 14.11 lakh voters.

State capital Gandhinagar has total 17,33,077 voters, Ahmedabad East 15,99,263, Ahmedabad West 15,33,209 and Vadodara had 16,37,575 voters.

Ms Karval said the Election Commission's drive to register new voters got huge response by the people.

She said 99.99 per cent voters have been provided election photo identity cards (EPIC).

There were a total of 3,98,71,571 voters in the state till January 31, 2014.

Gujarat will go to polling on April 30 for 26 Lok Sabha seats.
