Former President A P J Abdul Kalam will participate in the concluding function of the 50 years celebrations of Thane Manufacturers Association (TMA) and address the industrialists on April 17.

This was announced here by Mr Sudhir Kalia, the Chairman of TMA at a news conference.

In his address Mr Kalia gave the history of the TMA and said the association had been serving the industries since the last fifty years and has presently around 150 members.

He said new members including the consultants, CAs, associates with the industries were becoming the members of the Association, which was a good sign.

He also said the activities of the Association were confined not only to the district but will now spread country wide and those from other states were also welcome to become members of the TMA.

He further said on this occasion the association will honour two renowned industrialists from Thane with the Golden Jubilee Excellence Award, Mr Ashok Advani from Blue Star for Manufacturing and Mr Prabhakar Deodhar of the Aplab for Technology.

Mr Deodhar had been the advisor on electronics to the Prime Minister. Mr Advani started the industry with just three people and now has a turnover of Rs 3,000 crore.

Dr Kalam will address the select gathering on the topic 'Manufacturing and National Development', Mr Kalia said.

He will also release a Coffee Table book known as 'Memoirs of Thane Industry', which will comprise of details of the members of the TMA, their success stories, and also history of Thane, said Mr Kalia.

Mr Pritam Ghanshyamnani, the former Chairman of the Association told newsmen that the association was instrumental in setting up the Emergency Control room for the industries in Thane at the Collectorate and also was holding training sessions to tanker drivers in transporting of Hazardous Chemicals and certifying them.

'The Association also undertook various other tasks which were of importance to the industries,' he added.
