As many as 14 of 239 candidates who are in the fray for April 17 Lok Sabha polls in 20 constituencies in Rajasthan have criminal cases against them. According to a report published today by NGOs--Rajasthan Election Watch and Association of Democratic Reforms(ADR)-- six percent of the 238 contestants declared their crime history.


Of the 14 with criminal cases, a BJP candidate and four Independents were involved in 'serious nature of crime', the study conducted by the two NGOs pointed out.

Sitting BJP MLA and contestant from Kota facing cases under Sections 143, 283, 332, 353 of the IPC with charges of causing hurt to prevent public servants from discharging duty under section 332 of IPC).

Independent candidates Kumbha Ram from Sriganganagar, Surendra Kumar Phulwariya from Sikar, sitting MLA Hanuman Beniwal from Nagaur, Om Prakash Jharoda from Jhunjhunu also face serious criminal cases, the NGOs held in a release here this afternoon.
