Voters in this part of Western Odisha were given a red carpet welcome while entering to the polling booths identified as model polling booths by the district administration.


The model polling booths bear altogether a different look with all facilities for the voters including clean drinking water, rest shed, clean toilets on the premises.

At the same time, 'Red Carpets' were laid from the main gate to the polling place so that the voters coming to exercise their franchise will feel proud as a citizen of the country,District Collector Balwant Singh said.'

Mr Singh, also the District Election Officer(DEO) said the arrangement was made in these model polling booths for all the voters today to accord them a warm welcome to the all the voters and exclusively to the new ones.

All these have been done with the sole objective of increasing the voters participation.

All the polling booths in Sambalpur Assembly constituency and selective booths in Kuchinda, Rengali and Rairakhol Assembly constituencies have been declared as 'Model Polling Stations' in the district,Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh said each new voter was presented with a 'Red Rose' to make him or her feel honoured for voting for the first time in life for the biggest democracy of the world.

At the Budharaja UP and ME Schools polling booths in the town,Headmistresses Nalini Sahu and Arati Behera were seen welcoming the new voters with Roses.

'I feel proud to be honoured in such a way,' said Miss Sriya Panigrahi who voted for the first time in her life in this school.

The school teachers,Anganwadi worker, Asha Karmis, NSS volunteers of different colleges were also present at the model polling booths ti help the old age persons, pregnant ladies, and ladies with small child so that they will not find any difficulty while voting.

For physically differentiated persons,special care was taken taken including providing wheel chair to them in every model booths, the election officer said.

The entrance gate of the some of the model polling booths were decorated to welcome the voters.
