'I'm not supporting any party candidates': Shantigiri Maharaj
Ellora seer Shantigiri Maharaj, who had contested the last Lok Sabha election unsuccessfully from Aurangabad LS constituency, today declared that he will not support any party candidates in the general election to be held in Marathwada region on April 24.
Addressing a news conference in his Ashram at Ellora about 35 km from here, he said, 'I have decided not to support any party's candidates in the LS election. I appeal to my followers to vote for those candidates who believe in our religion and country, and who are working for banning ongoing cow slaughter in the country.' Shantigiri Maharaj slammed the Congress party for its criticism of yoga exponent Baba Ramdev and Art of Living preacher Sri Sri Ravishaknar campaigning for BJP while agreeing to its president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's meeting with Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari of Jama Masjid for seeking minority votes in favour of the party.
In 2009, Shantigiri had contested the LS election from Aurangabad constituency against Shiv Sena candidate Chandrakanat Khaire and Congress candidate Uttam Singh Pawar, and had managed to get 1.48 lakh votes from among his large number of followers in the constituency.
