Modi slams Mamata Banerjee government
BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today slammed the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress government for harbouring 'vote bank politics' and urged the people to bring 'real poriborton'.
'The people have been disappointed with this poriborton which stinks of scams and vote bank politics,' Mr Modi told an election rally in favour of party's Darjeeling Lok Sabha candidate SS Ahluwalia.
'The people had voted for a change after Left Front damaged the state. But change of colour does not mean a real change takes place,' Mr Modi said, adding the current government has disappointed the people.
'People were made fool of by the vote bank politics here and if you want a real change then elect a strong government at the Centre to rein in the bad things of the state,' Mr Modi told the gathering.
Mr Modi was more critical of the Mamata Banerjee government today than his last Kolkata public meeting on February 5 when he had said he could help the state government if voted to power at the Centre.
'What happens in future if the state government is already involved in scams like chit fund (Sharada) and
Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority in three years,' Mr Modi asked.
He said a scam may be big or small, but it shows the mentality of the people who commit these loot. 'Chit fund cheating has happened and money of the poor has gone. Bless us so that we can punish those who cheated the poor,' Mr Modi said amid cheers of the supporters, who came from the hills and plains in this nondescript village, about 10 km north of Siliguri.
He wondered why the chief minister was always critical about the BJP, instead of opposing the Left Front and Congress.
'I believe her food is not digested unless she castigates BJP 100 times a day,' Mr Modi remarked.
'The more dirt you throw more the Lotus will shine. There are still a few days left for you to do this,' he told the gathering.
'The sight here shows real parivartan is coming. We have seen the nakli parivartan. Now is time for asli parivartan,' he said.
Without mentioning Gorkhaland, Mr Modi said 'The dream of the Gorkhas is my dream also'.
He said, 'The Gorkhas have not been able to get their due so far and the BJP will give them when it comes to power at the Centre.'
He said the entire Himalayan region must be developed separately and Darjeeling must be developed like Sikkim, Uttarkhand and Himachal Pradesh.
A separate development board will also be constituted for the entire Himalayan Region, including Darjeeling.
Mr Modi said it was unfortunate the earlier government never gave our Everester Tenzing Norgay the high respect that was due to him.
Darjeeling Tea and Tourism will be given special focus, Mr Modi assured.
