Nationalist Congress Party supermo and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar criticized BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi by saying that during the Modi regime Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rate came down from 17 per cent to 9 per cent.

Addressing an election rally last night at Beed in support of party candidate Suresh Dhas, Mr Pawar said during the Congress government in Gujarat before 2001, the GDP rate was 17 per cent which came down to nine per cent presently during Mr Modi's long tenure.

'So, how is it that the people are saying that development works have been done by Modi?' Mr Pawar questioned.

He added that the Congress-NCP led Maharashtra state government has done lot of works for the welfare of the people and the state government is providing grains to 70 per cent of the people in the state at Rs 2 a kg.

He also appreciated the works done by the Cong-NCP led Government during their decade tenure, Mr Pawar added.
