An attempt to loot a finance company office in the Naupada locality by a four-member armed gang was today foiled by alert citizens and presence of mind of the employees, police said today. The Naupada police told

UNI that at about 1500 hrs today, four armed men gate crashed into the office of Muthoot Finance situated near the Aradhana Cinema locality just at a short distance from the Naupada police station.

The foursome first locked the employees into the toilet of the finance company office situated in the first floor of Nagesh Tower in Nagobachi Wadi in Naupada. The employees, who were locked in, raised an alarm and alerted some youth who were chit chatting downstairs.

The youth -- one identified as Santosh Pawar and the other as a Kashmiri -- nabbed two dacoits who were making an attempt to run away with Rs 35,000 from the office. They also seized a sickle from the duo who they caught.

Meanwhile, police have spread a dragnet to nab the two others who fled the place, grabbing the opportunity in the commotion.

This is the second such attack in the district. Earlier on August 19, 2012, a gang of six armed dacoits had struck at the office of Muthoot Fincorp at Mira road in the district and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 5.37 lakh.

The armed gang entered the premises, trussed up the staff members at gun point and ran off with gold jewellery worth Rs 1.66 lakh and cash of Rs 3.70 lakh.
