Cash, pushing cards, caps of party candidates seized in Odisha
The police have seized cash worth Rs 1.40 lakhs and pushing cards and caps in favour of ruling BJD candidates and arrested three people in this regard.
Official sources here said the police team and a magistrate on duty at Barpali in Bargarh district seized Rs 1.40 lakh in cash from a vehicle and arrested contractor Rabi Das of Stationpara Bargarh, Kerosene dealer Manoj Lath and jeweler Pintu Verma.
The three were moving in Barpali area in a vehicle when the police and the magistrate on duty, intercepted it found the cash and the pushing cards and BJD caps from their possession. The flying squad team seized the vehicle with cash and other materials.
In another incident, the flying squad and the police at Bijepur under same Bargarh district also seized two vehicles for their suspicious movements.
In Jharsuguda where high profile campaigning between Kishore Mohanty of the ruling BJD and Naba Das of Congress is going on, the police seized Rs 1.61 lakh, detained three people and seized two bikes.
DIG of Police(Northen Range) Sanjaya Kumar said since Wednesday night is most crucial hours before the first phase election in Odisha, the police is more vigilant on every respect including distribution of cash to allure the voters.
The police, he said, have opened control rooms in sensitive places all over the police range comprising of five revenue districts.
The Police, Election observers and Expenditure observers are also equally alert, the DIG said.
