A live bomb was today found under the car of Congress candidate Mala Roy contesting from the Kolkata South Lok Sabha seat.

Bomb squad and combat police arrived at the site and defused it, police added.

The bomb was planted underneath the car, parked at a garage situated on Pratapadittya Road in south Kolkata. A hooded open four-wheeler is used by Ms Roy for electioneering.

'The bomb was planted to create terror among the opposition candidates,' Ms Roy said, accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress.

'I can guarantee that many bombs will be found in the area if a search operation is carried out,' she said.

Ms Roy said she would lodge a compaint with the Election Commission in the matter.

Investigations were on the police said.
