Gloomy wave in Aralgundi village after Kakanwadi's death
A gloomy wave spread in Aralundi village of Gandiglaj Tehsil here, when the news of Naik Subhedar Durdundi alias Ravindra Irrappa Kakanwadi death spread.
He was killed in a terrorist attack in Srinangar yesterday.
In an overnight gunbattle between security personel and Pakistani terrorist at Zunrishi village of Kupwara district in Srinagar,45-year-old Kakanwadi was killed on the spot when a bullet penetrated from his shoulder. In this incident three security jawans were also killed.
Kankanwadi, a jawan of 19 Maratha Light Battalion, born in a farmers' family, he joined army in Jat of Sangli district in 1988, and completed training in Marathi Light battalion in Belgaum. Later and he had gone along with 'Shantisena' to Sri lanka during 1989-90. After returning from Sri Lanka, he served his duty at Arunachal Pradesh,Kargil, Rajasthan and Amritsar.
According to District Collector Rajaram Mane, the army officials have already informed about Kankanwadi to his brother Dr Shashikant late last night. His body would reach at Lohgaon airport in Pune this evening and would be taken to his native village Aralgundi early tomorrow morning, where his last rights will be held with full state honour.
After the news of his death reached this remote village, all shops and daily activities remained closed today.
Meanwhile people of the village have decided to unanimously cancel the annual 'yatra' (pilgrimage) of 'Gramdevi Shree Wakadadevi', which was to start from today for three days to pay homage to Kakanwadi.
