West Bengal chief secretary Sanjay Mitra today sent an emergency note to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on election tour after the Election Commission (EC) rejecting state government plea to reconsider its transfer order of eight government officials in six districts.

Mr Mitra reportedly, in his note, sought Ms Banerjee's clearance for implementation of the EC order of transfer of one district magistrate, two ADMs and five superintendents of police and appointments of the officials as per order.

The Chief Minster is on election tour in Purulia and Bankura.

Mr Mitra held an extra ordinary meeting with the top officials, including the home secretary and the DGP at Nabanna after the EC set a deadline of 1000 hrs tomorrow. Earlier, the EC had served the deadline by 1430 hrs today but it extended further state government's pleas for reconsidering the transfer order.

The EC's fax landed at Nabanna around 1645 hrs rejecting the state government plea for reconsideration of its order.

Former Calcutta HC chief justice Bhagabati Prasad Banerjee opined that the ECI order was binding for the state government.
