22 prominent leaders join BJP in Jalna ahead of LS polls
Raosaheb Danve, the sitting BJP candidate for Jalna, received a boost to his campaign today when 22 prominent members, including former health minister Dr Namdevrao Gadekar, formally joined the BJP here.
Mr Danve introduced all the leaders at a crowded news conference held this evening at Deccan Gymkhana.
Former health minister in Sharad Pawar-led government between 1978-1980, Dr Gadekar is among the 22 leaders -- mostly from the Maratha community -- who left their respective parties and formally joined the BJP.
All the leaders are from Phulambri, Sillod and Paithan which are in Aurangabad district but fall under the Jalna LS constituency.
Commenting on senior leader and former minister Haribhau Bagade's absence at the meet, Mr Danve said that such reports are incorrect and that Mr Bagade will be seen campaigning with them in two-three days.
Besides Dr Gadekar, Shivaji Patrikar, Gopinath Wagh, Shivaji Gadekar, Srirang Patil Salve, Sadashiv Patil, Prakash Borade were among those who joined the BJP today. They and others were later feleciated by Mr Danve in presence of all party office-bearers from Aurangabad and Jalna.
