Police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse a group of persons who put up a road blockade at Ariyur near here today.

According to police, the trouble started at Sivaranthagam village over engaging people to play music at a funeral procession yesterday.

A group from Sivaranthagam colony attacked some relatives of Pakkiri after the funeral triggering tension in Sivaranthagam village.

Mangalam police then pacified both the groups. However, around midnight last night an unidentified gang entered the colony and unleashed an attack in which two police personnel also sustained injuries. Police resorted to a lathicharge and brought the situation under control.

However, this morning two persons were allegedly assaulted by the other group and protesting this they resorted to a road roko at Ariyur.

As they refused to heed to the request of the police to disperse, police resorted to a lathicharge and the agitators dispersed, but not before attacking a private bus which came that way by pelting stone injuring a passenger.

Villianur police were investigating.
