Tough fight will be seen in Congress bastion Nanded
'Adarsha' fight is on the cards in the stronghold of Chavan family in the holy town for sikhs Nanded as the second scion of Chavan family Ashok is Congress candidate pitted against BJP candidate former MP D B Patil.
Nanded is the constituency held by late Shankarrao Chavan, his son-in-law Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar and now his son is entering in the fray. Ashok Chavan's wife is a Punjabi.
Ashok Chavan clinched the candidature at the last minute, however, another controversial Congressman Suresh kalmadi could not achieve the same.
Prominent among the candidates are former state chief minister Ashok Chavan and son of late Chief Minister Sankarrao Chavan who was pitted against BJP candidates and former MP D B Pawar-Patil in poll arena.
Besides them Narendra Singh Granti (AAP), Mr Hansraj Vaidya (BSP), Mr Altaf Ahmed (IUML), Raj Ratna Ambedkar (BMP), Ramchandra Sawat (BRP-BMM), Balaji Shinde (SP) Sayed Tanvir (MBT), Shaikh Alfouddin of Lokbharti party and rest of all the Independent candidates were also trying their luck.
In this Congress dominant districts falling nine assembly segments Congress representing six, two by NCP and rest one Congress supported Independents and there was not a single MLA belonging from BJP and Shiv Sena.
Out of nine segments in Nanded district six of assembly seats Nanded, Mukhed, Bhokar, Mudkhed, Naigaon and Degloor falling in this constituency with total 18.25 lakh voters this time will franchise While Hadgaon, Kinwat and Mahur segments falling in Hingoli Lok Sabha Constituency.
This time the Congress high command selected Mr Chavan in place of his brother-in-law Bhaskararo Patil-Khatgaonkar who declared that he will not fight election from Nanded.
Mr Khatgaokar won the elections in 1998 and 1999, but faced defeat in 2004 at the hands D B Pawar-Patil, the first BJP nominee to be elected from the constituency.
The Adarsh scam was reported when Chavan was heading the state and had to go in the wake of the controversy.
He remained sulking for four years, and brought back into the main stream by the Congress high command.
After the sudden death of Vilasrao Deshmukh who was Charismatic and son of soil leader from this region there was no powerful leadership to the Congress party except Mr Chavan in this backward Marathwada region.
