In a big boost for the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, more than 500 Muslims today joined the party saying that they want to see Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister of the country.

The Muslims belong to Jamalpur, Mirzapur, Behrampura and other areas of the city.

They joined the BJP in the presence of BJP leader Surendra Singh Rajput and local party leader Rauf Bengali under the party's state Laghumati Morcha (minority cell).

'There is peace and harmony in Gujarat under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Development has taken place in the state under Mr Modi. Muslims also want to see him as the next Prime Minister,' said Mr Rajput, a former Congress MLA, while raising slogans 'bharat mata ki jai'.

Mr Bengali said if Mr Modi becomes the PM, he will do development works across the nation like he has done in Gujarat.

When asked about the BJP manifesto for the LS polls, which was released in New Delhi today and talks about Ram Mandir, Mr Bengali said, 'The old issues should be kept aside. The Muslims should move towards development.'

The development has come as a big boost for Mr Modi and the BJP,who were trying hard to woo minorities towards the party ahead of the general elections.
