Congress candidate from Gandhinagar Kirit Patel today filed his nomination paper for the Lok Sabha elections.


BJP veteran L K Advani, who is also contesting from Gandhinagar, filed his nomination on April 5.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and newly-appointed in-charge of Gujarat Congress Ashok Gehlot addressed a public rally this morning in favour of Mr Patel, a former state minister.

Mr Gehlot, who was on a two-day visit of the state, also inaugurated party's Gandhinagar election office.

The former Rajasthan CM had arrived in the state yesterday afternoon.

During his visit, Mr Gehlot discussed party strategy for upcoming Lok Sabha polls with workers.

Mr Gehlot has replaced Gurudas Kamat who was earlier the in-charge of Gujarat Congress but now he is busy fighting Lok Sabha election from Mumbai.

Gujarat will go to single phase polling on April 30 for 26 Lok Sabha seats.

Last date for filing of nomination is April 9. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on April 10.

Last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 12. Counting of votes will be held on May 16.
